Amblu Kai

   Bed & Breakfast

This 1939 Queen Anne Victorian was

Redding's premier Bed & Breakfast for over 40 years!

She's under new ownership and has just had a makeover

including the decks and pool area.

They say that life is about the journey, not just the destination. Expect one-of-a-kind experiences that will make you never want to stay in another hotel.

Since Redding is centrally located in the heart of the great outdoors, the opportunity for recreation is vast and varied.  We are surrounded on three sides by millions of acres of public land including Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, Lassen Volcanic National Park, McArthur Burney Falls Memorial State Park, spectacular Mt. Shasta, and the pristine Trinity Alps.

Redding is the perfect base camp for exploring the hotbed of adventure travel in California! Redding is also home to the magnificent Sundial Bridge, the historical, renovated Cascade Theatre, Turtle Bay Exploration Park, and the Sacramento River National Recreation Trail.

Enjoy beautiful views of Mt. Lassen from this historic home.

Before the California Gold Rush settlers named it Mt. Lassen, local Native Americans called it AMBLU KAI  meaning "Fire Mountain".

We know you’ll enjoy the character of this older home. In the Spring, the gardens are fragrant & colorful and the views of Mt. Lassen (Amblu Kai) are spectacular! During Redding's hot Summer you can enjoy the views from the bed swing on the deck as a cool breeze blows, cool down by taking a dip in the pool while enjoying the song birds in the poolside aviary or lounge by the pool with a good book to the sound of the waterfall in the koi pond.   In the Fall, enjoy your tea or coffee from the pergola covered deck while you catch a sunrise over Mt. Lassen. If we are lucky enough the sunset will stretch out from the east and give us a show as well!

You’ll see why we call it our Open Heaven!

Each of our rooms are named after Northern California Landmarks. They are fully equipped with everything you need during your stay. You will be treated to luxurious amenities such as plush robes, Turkish cotton towels, fine bamboo bed linens and bath accessories. In the Spring, Summer and early Fall the gardens are fragrant and colorful drawing hummingbirds, butterflies and honeybees. The Koi pond rustles with the soothing sound of a waterfall. The gentle breezes release the sounds of the wind chimes. The poolside Aviary is a great place to unwind listening to the songbirds.

To keep our prices affordable, please request if you'd like your bed made daily. (There is a $5 sur charge per day for this daily housekeeping request.) We are happy to replace towels as needed .

On hot summer days, take a dip in the pool or enjoy reading a book while listening to the song birds in the poolside Aviary.  Enjoy the ambiance of the pool lighting at night or enjoy the gas fire pit under the pool pergola.

Redding and the Sacramento River have some of the best fishing around.

There are several hundred miles of rivers, creeks, lakes and streams in and around Redding. Trout and steelhead fishing is a way of life around here with fishing year round.

The Fly Shop located in Redding and America's number one source for fly fishing tackle also offers a guide service.

We also recommend  Scott Freeman as an awesome fly fishing guide.

Owen Robinson of Cuthroat Guide Service comes highly recommended as well.

"Melissa and her family were quiet, friendly hosts that fully opened their home to us. Our beds were very comfy and the bathroom/shower was nice. The house is huge and we felt like we had privacy. The neighborhood and surrounding area aren't really walkable, given its country-side setting, so if you walk/run, keep that in mind. All in all, a great experience." ~ Matt

"We enjoyed our time at Melissa's. Melissa and her family are just overall amazing as they made us feel very welcomed. Melissa's house is absolutely beautiful, especially making us wish we stayed longer to enjoy the patio and pool area. The king bedroom was super spacious and everything as described and shown with it's own bathroom. It was pleasure staying at Melissa's, she treated us so nicely and even left us homemade cupcakes when we left." ~Rachel
